Wonderkid makes history as Spain’s youngest player and scorer

Barcelona’s rising star, Lamine Yamal, made history not once but twice during Spain’s Euro 2024 qualifying match against Georgia on Friday.

The 16-year-old forward’s remarkable journey began when he was substituted into the match in the 44th minute, instantly becoming Spain’s youngest men’s player at just 16 years and 57 days.

This achievement broke the previous record held by his Barcelona teammate Gavi, who had made his international debut in 2021 at the age of 17 years and 62 days.

Yamal’s historic evening didn’t stop there, as he went on to etch his name in the record books once again by scoring a goal for Spain in the 74th minute.

This goal made him the youngest scorer in his country’s history, surpassing Gavi’s previous record.

This latest feat adds to Yamal’s growing list of accomplishments, which includes becoming Barcelona’s youngest La Liga starter in the 21st century when he made his full debut in August.

When he first debuted for Barcelona in April at the tender age of 15, he became the club’s youngest player in over a century.

The match itself saw Spain secure a resounding 7-1 victory, with Álvaro Morata contributing a hat trick, an own goal from Solomon Kverkveila, and goals from Dani Olmo and Nico Williams.

Despite this impressive win, Spain currently sits in second place in Group A, trailing Scotland by nine points, with the Scots having played two additional games.
