Former commission officer confesses to bribery and implicates chairman in scandal

In a surprising turn of events on Monday, Haruna Kolo, a former desk officer of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) at the Federal Character Commission (FCC), openly confessed to his involvement in a job recruitment bribery scheme.

Kolo acknowledged receiving over N75 million from desperate job seekers at the instruction of the FCC Chairman.

He further claimed that the FCC head ordered him to transfer the funds to his personal account and make cash payments, which he did multiple times at her residence.

Kolo made these revelations during an ongoing investigative hearing by the House of Representatives ad hoc committee examining mismanagement of the IPPIS across federal ministries, departments, agencies, parastatals, and tertiary institutions.

The former IPPIS officer disclosed that he resigned from FCC to join the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), but due to an administrative oversight, he continued to receive salaries from FCC.

He also addressed allegations of his involvement in multiple jobs, stating that such claims were based on assumptions.

Kolo raised concerns about his safety, hinting at potential threats he had faced and indicating that the FCC Chairperson should be held responsible if any harm befalls him after his testimony.

In response, Committee Chairman Yusuf Gagdi assured that the truth would be unveiled and promised to hold accountable anyone found culpable.

The committee adjourned its sitting until the following day for further testimonies and investigations.
