POS operator duped twice by fraudster sending fake alerts

A Point of Sale (POS) operator, based on Obafemi Awolowo Way in Ikeja, Lagos, expressed frustration after falling victim to a fraudster who sent counterfeit bank alerts on two separate occasions.

The operator, identified as Fiyinfoluwa, recounted her ordeal, revealing that she lost N100,000 to the fraudster during the latest incident on Saturday.

Although the fraudster was apprehended during his second attempt, he managed to flee in a waiting vehicle before authorities could take action.

Fiyinfoluwa recounted, “The fraudster first came and claimed he needed to withdraw N50,000 for his boss waiting at a plaza.

He returned, requesting N100,000 instead of N50,000. I checked my app and confirmed that both alerts were fake.”

During the subsequent encounter on Saturday, Fiyinfoluwa recognized the fraudster and confronted him. The fraudster confessed to the N100,000 scam and disclosed that he had handed the money to his boss at the plaza.

Bamigbade Suleiman, an eyewitness, attested to the incident, revealing that he was present when the fraudster was caught but managed to escape after receiving a beating from outraged individuals.

Despite the perpetrator’s escape, Fiyinfoluwa was able to recover only N15,000 of her lost funds.
