Tailor sentenced to 3 months in jail for stealing body lotion

Zakari Saleh, a 19-year-old tailor, has been sentenced by a Jos Magistrates’ Court to three months in prison for stealing two tubes of body lotion from a shop.

Saleh was apprehended after the complainant, Aminu Wakili, reported the incident to the Laranto Police Station in Jos on June 6.

The accused entered the complainant’s shop under the pretense of making a purchase but stole two body creams worth N43,000.

Upon searching Saleh, two tubes of lotion were found in his possession, an act that is punishable under the Plateau State Penal Code Law.

Magistrate Shawomi Bokkos, after Saleh pleaded guilty, summarily sentenced him to imprisonment.

The magistrate did provide an option for Saleh to pay a fine of N20,000 instead. Bokkos emphasized that the sentence would serve as a deterrent to potential offenders.
