Pope Francis returns to Vatican city following hospital visit

Pope Francis arrived back at the Vatican before noon on Tuesday after a short visit to the hospital for some “clinical examinations,” as confirmed by Holy See spokesman Matteo Bruni.

The pontiff was taken to the Gemelli Clinic for a few hours, although the Vatican did not disclose any specifics regarding the nature or purpose of the examinations.

Local media reports suggest that he was discharged after undergoing prearranged medical checks. It’s worth noting that Pope Francis had previously been hospitalized for several days in late March due to bronchitis.

However, he successfully recuperated and rejoined the Vatican in time for the observance of Holy Week and Easter weekend.

In late May, the Pope had to cancel scheduled audiences and appointments for a day due to a fever.
