Villareal’s Nigerian import, Samuel Chukwueze, has been honored with the title of La Liga Best African Player for the 2022/2023 season.

Chukwueze’s exceptional performance throughout the season with Villarreal earned him this prestigious accolade.

Out of the 37 matches he participated in, Chukwueze started in 27 of them, showcasing his prowess on the field.

Villareal expressed their delight in Chukwueze’s achievement, highlighting that he was voted for by over 30,000 fans and 26 journalists from Africa.

This recognition places him ahead of other renowned African players such as Yassine Bono, Iñaki Williams, and Youssef En-Nesyri.

Chukwueze faced tough competition, including Iñaki Williams, who received the LaLiga Santander Mid-Season African MVP award and set a remarkable record of making 251 consecutive LaLiga appearances over seven seasons.

Bounou, the previous season’s LaLiga Santander African MVP Award winner, was also in contention for the title due to his exceptional penalty shootout heroics that led Sevilla FC to win the UEFA Europa League.
