National assembly invites CBN governor, AG Malami, others over missing 48m crude oil barrels and N32bn

The House of Representatives committee investigating the alleged disappearance of 48 million barrels of crude oil has summoned the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, to provide an explanation regarding the missing N32.5 billion.

It is reported that the funds were paid to two companies, Messrs GSCL Consulting and Biz Plus, without proper documentation.

The committee has also summoned the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, as well as several other officials and companies involved in the matter.

During the committee’s session in Abuja, Chairman Mark Gbillah expressed concern over the lack of response and non-appearance of the summoned individuals.

He revealed that records showed the CBN had made separate payments of N16.5 billion to both companies on the same day, contradicting Malami’s previous statement claiming ignorance of the payments.

Gbillah directed the committee’s clerk to request detailed information from the AGF regarding the approval for engaging the legal team responsible for the investigation.

He also mentioned that former AGFs and the former DG of NIMASA should provide information on the status of the investigation.
