Police reveal how unknown gunmen killed Rivers state DPO

The Rivers State Police Command has expressed its determination to apprehend and prosecute the assailants responsible for the ambush and killing of one of its Divisional Police Officers (DPO), Bako Angbanshin, in Odumude community, Ahoada East Local Government Area of the state on Friday night.

According to police reports, Angbanshin had led a team of officers on a mission to raid criminal hideouts in the area. On their return, they were ambushed by gunmen suspected to be cultists.

The state’s Commissioner of Police, Emeka Nwonyi, issued a statement through the Command’s spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, on Saturday morning, confirming the incident and condemning the attack.

During the confrontation, the armed assailants engaged the police operatives, leading to Angbanshin’s men running out of ammunition.

The DPO sustained fatal injuries and was captured by the gunmen, ultimately resulting in his death.

Operatives of the Nigerian Army were contacted for assistance, but the challenging conditions in the dense bush hindered their efforts to recover Angbanshin’s body.
