On Friday, September 8, a tragic incident occurred as a local boat carrying residents, including children, capsized in Njua Lake near Rugange village in Adamawa State’s Yola South local government area.
The calamity has led to fears that at least fifteen individuals may have lost their lives.
The ill-fated boat was ferrying passengers to the main Yola town for their usual local businesses when disaster struck.
A sudden and fierce windstorm hit, causing water to inundate the vessel, resulting in it capsizing instantly.

Approximately twenty people were on board the local boat at the time of the accident.
Only six passengers managed to be rescued by local divers and a larger boat that arrived at the scene promptly.
Authorities have confirmed the incident, and the spokesperson for the state police command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, has stated that ongoing rescue operations are being conducted to locate and save those still aboard the capsized canoe.
