In Iwo, Osun State, a recent operation involving police and local hunters resulted in the demise of two suspected kidnappers, while aiming to rescue a kidnapped Fulani herder named Alhaji Adamu in Abase Village.
The unfortunate incident began when a gang of eleven individuals, identified as Bororo, attacked Adamu’s village in the early hours of Tuesday, abducting him and transporting him to an undisclosed location within the forest.
Swift action was taken as a security team, consisting of police officers and local hunters, swiftly responded to the situation.
The clash ensued in the bush, with gunshots exchanged between the rescuers and the abductors.
As a consequence of the shootout, two of the kidnappers were fatally shot, while the others managed to escape into the forest, wounded by gunshot injuries.
A source from the security team, who participated in the search and rescue operation, provided insight into the incident.
He stated that the kidnapping occurred at Agbese Village near Idi Araba, Oke Oba, Iwo West LCDA.
Despite the kidnappers managing to take Alhaji Adamu from his farm, the vigilant villagers raised an alarm, promptly informing the police.
This led to the deployment of a rescue team in collaboration with local hunters, who quickly scoured the bushes and located both the captors and their abductee.
During the confrontation, a gunfire exchange took place, resulting in the elimination of two of the kidnappers, while the others fled, nursing gunshot wounds.
Alhaji Adamu was successfully rescued and transported to a hospital in Iwo town for medical attention. The deceased kidnappers’ bodies were taken to the police station in Iwo.
The security team has since returned to the forest in a bid to apprehend or neutralize the remaining members of the gang, believed to be concealed in the wooded area.
