INEC files six charges against suspended Adamawa REC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has lodged a six-count charge against its suspended Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Adamawa State, Hudu Yunusa-Ari.

This action follows a review of the police case file, which established a prima facie case against Yunusa-Ari related to his conduct during the Adamawa State governorship election.

The REC was arrested and subsequently granted administrative bail with a requirement to report to the Nigerian Police Force headquarters every weekday.

INEC, as the responsible body, has taken the step to prosecute Yunusa-Ari if sufficient evidence is found against him.

The REC had declared Aisha ‘Binani’ Dahiru of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the election prematurely, prompting INEC to nullify his decision and suspend him pending investigation.

Yunusa-Ari defended his actions, citing security pressures and discrepancies in the polling unit results.
