Over 500 Nigerian students were sent back to Sudan from Egypt by the Egyptian authorities following the failure of two students to provide valid travel documents.
According to a voice note of a Nigerian official, students without passports or Emergency Travel Certificates (ETC) were instructed to stay behind until they could obtain the necessary permits.
Two students without documents ignored the directive and joined their colleagues, prompting the Egyptian authorities to order the return of all the students to Sudan to obtain the required documents.

The voice note revealed that the Nigerian government had arranged for the students to be airlifted to Nigeria but their impatience had led to the delay of almost ten hours. The official also expressed concern over the whereabouts of a missing child who had sneaked into Egypt during the chaos.
The Nigerian official warned students at Port Sudan to behave in a coordinated manner to avoid being returned back to Khartoum.
