AGS NEWS – The Bauchi State Police Command confirmed that a young man, Habibu Aminu, was killed by joint military operatives of Operation Safe Haven during a clash with youths in Lere town, Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area.
Eyewitnesses reported that six others were injured when the military raided the homes of individuals involved in an earlier altercation at a main checkpoint in Lere.
Habibu Aminu, who had completed his National Youth Service three months prior, was among those killed.
Police spokesperson SP Ahmed Wakil stated that the incident is under investigation. The conflict arose after a dispute between members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Operation Safe Haven personnel.

Following the incident, Commissioner Auwal Musa Mohammed sent a Mobile Police Force unit to the area for reinforcement.
A team of detectives has been assembled to conduct a thorough investigation to ensure justice.
Several victims recounted their experiences. Babawo Lauwawu, who was shot in the leg, said the military imposed a curfew on Lere town without prior notice, leading to confusion and gunfire.
Another victim, Zaharedden Mohammed, claimed there was a misunderstanding between PDP supporters and the military, resulting in sporadic shooting.
Nurudden Isa, a driver involved in the initial checkpoint altercation, described being beaten and dragged by military personnel when they came to his home later that night. He sustained injuries in the process.
The police have vowed to hold those responsible accountable and are using all necessary protocols, including technical and scientific tools, to ensure a comprehensive investigation.
