In a session at the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Tuesday, December 12, a man named Wasiu Oriyomi was remanded in the Kirikiri Maximum Correctional Centre for the alleged defilement of a 7-year-old girl.
Oriyomi, whose residential address remains undisclosed, faces charges of defilement and entered a plea of not guilty during the proceedings.

Justice Rahman Oshodi ordered the remand of the defendant in the correctional centre, where he is presently held.
The case is adjourned until February 22, 2024, marking the commencement of the trial.
Earlier, the state counsel, Ms. Inumidun Solarin, informed the court that the defendant purportedly committed the offense in August 2022 on Oludele Street, Ikola Odunsi, in Ikeja.
Solarin alleged that Oriyomi engaged in unlawful sexual intercourse with the 7-year-old survivor (whose name is withheld).

The prosecution asserts that this act is in violation of Section 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015, which carries a life imprisonment penalty upon conviction.
