The Borno State Police Command has apprehended a 37-year-old man named Hamisu Dauda for allegedly sexually assaulting a 62-year-old woman in the Shani Local Government Area of the state.

During a briefing with journalists in Maiduguri on Monday, October 9, 2023, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammad Yusufu, revealed that the suspect not only committed the rape but also stole N42,700 from the victim following the assault.

According to CP Yusufu, the incident occurred on September 13, 2023, when the victim, Laraba Musa, aged 62, had gone to Sabon Layin of Landekato and was returning home along the Phana riverside.

It was during her journey that she noticed movement behind her and heard a noise. When she turned to investigate, she saw Hamisu Dauda, aged 37, who lives in the same area, approaching her.

Dauda allegedly grabbed her forcefully and sexually assaulted her before stealing N42,700 from her pocket. The police have initiated an investigation into the matter, and the suspect is currently in custody.
