An unknown individual, suspected of being a vandal, met an unfortunate end as he was electrocuted while allegedly attempting to steal transformer cables within the Niger State Printing Press premises in Minna.
The lifeless body of the man was discovered hanging on the transformer in the early hours of Friday, September 8, 2023, by some employees of the printing press.
Aminu Ubandoma, the Head of Legal Unit at the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), confirmed the incident, revealing that the company had been receiving numerous reports of transformer vandalism.
They were actively collaborating with law enforcement agencies, particularly the police, to minimize incidents of transformer vandalism.
The spokesperson for the Niger Police Command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, also confirmed the occurrence of the suspected electrocution and vandalism.

He reported that around 11:00 a.m. on Friday, an incident was reported involving a male adult, yet to be identified, who was discovered at the printing press premises near the old secretariat area.
The individual’s lifeless body was found next to a transformer with a cable cutter and some vandalized cables. His death was presumed to have resulted from electrocution.
The body was subsequently transported to General Hospital Minna by the Morris patrol team, where he was officially pronounced dead.
Investigations into the incident, in collaboration with AEDC, are currently ongoing, and efforts are being made to locate the deceased’s relatives.
