The Bauchi State Civil Service Commission has terminated the employment of Ibrahim Garba, the Chief Secretarial Assistant attached to the State Pension Board, due to alleged “serious misconduct involving a salary and pension scam.”
According to a statement issued by the Information Officer of the BSCSC, Mr. Saleh Umar, the commission revealed that Garba’s actions were in violation of Public Service Rule (PSR) 0327(XI), which addresses financial embezzlement matters.
The commission’s decision to terminate Garba’s employment was made during the 17th plenary session held on August 1.
A disciplinary committee of the State Pension Board found Garba guilty of manipulating the account number of a deceased individual, Audu Mohammed, with his own.
This manipulation led to a change in pay point after the deceased’s relatives reported his passing.
As a result, Garba illicitly received pension payments totaling over N3 million for 55 months, amounting to N54,871 per month over four years and seven months.
The commission clarified that the recovered amount would be deducted from Garba’s benefits.
Alhaji Abubakar Usman, the commission’s chairman, emphasized the importance of adhering to the public service rule, urging workers to approach their responsibilities with a sense of responsibility and ethical conduct.
Usman reassured civil servants that the commission would not allow any worker to face unwarranted victimization, while simultaneously affirming the commission’s commitment to tackling misconduct within the service.
