During the Presidential Groundbreaking ceremony of the 350MW power project, the President, Bola Tinubu, ordered the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to ensure the completion of the project within three years.
The power project is the first phase of the planned Gwagwalada Independent Power Plant with a target capacity of 7,350MW.
Tinubu emphasized the project’s significance for Nigeria’s economic growth and expressed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the power sector to drive the nation’s economy.
Addressing the NNPCL’s Group CEO, Mele Kyari, Tinubu stressed the importance of fulfilling promises made, as Nigerians are keenly watching the progress.
He urged related regulatory bodies and entities, such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, Transmission Company of Nigeria, and Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc, to collaborate and support the NNPCL to expedite the project completion.
The NNPCL CEO highlighted Nigeria’s vast natural gas resources, which would be utilized to expand energy access and foster economic growth, industrialization, and job creation across the country.
Tinubu reiterated his administration’s dedication to improving the lives of Nigerians and ensuring stable electricity supply by removing power distribution bottlenecks.
