The Cross River State government has enforced a ban on the operation of commercial motorcyclists, commonly known as okada, in the Calabar metropolis.
Governor Prince Bassey Otu’s chief press secretary, Emmanuel Ogbeche, stated that this decision was made to ensure a safe and secure environment in Cross River.
Violators of the ban will be subjected to legal prosecution.
According to the official statement, “His Excellency Senator Prince Bassey Otu, in consultation with key security chiefs in the state, has issued the following directives: a complete prohibition on the activities of all commercial motorcyclists within the Calabar metropolis.
Individuals who wish to use their motorcycles for livelihood purposes are limited to remote areas outside the city center.”
