Nigerian music star Adekunle Gold, popularly known as AG Baby, has called out Wema Bank and its digital platform ALAT for allegedly using his viral ‘first-class giveaway’ campaign in a promotional advert without his permission.
The singer, who recently launched a widely celebrated giveaway initiative to reward Nigerians with first-class university degrees, expressed disappointment after noticing the bank’s marketing campaign appeared to mimic his idea without prior notice or credit.
The controversial advert, which circulated on social media, read:
“AG Baby no send you first-class gift? No worries, ALAT’s got you covered. Enjoy up to 70% off your favorite brands this weekend via eVouchers on the ALAT app – it’s no crime to not have a first-class degree.”

In a swift response, Adekunle Gold took to his social media platform to express his displeasure and hinted at possible legal action.
“Dear @wemabank @alat_ng, when did this start? You’ll be hearing from my people,” he wrote, tagging both the bank and its digital arm directly.
The ‘Party No Dey Stop’ hitmaker’s original giveaway had gone viral for celebrating academic excellence with cash rewards, generating widespread applause across social media platforms. Fans and critics alike have since reacted to the bank’s advertisement, with many accusing the institution of exploiting the artist’s creativity for commercial gain.
As of press time, Wema Bank and ALAT have not issued an official statement in response to the allegations.
