China has reiterated its commitment to supporting Nigeria’s infrastructure development, as the Greater Abuja Water Supply Network was officially commissioned on Monday by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The event, which forms part of a series of ongoing project inaugurations across the FCT, featured remarks from Zhang Yi, China’s Charge d’Affaires in Nigeria, who underscored the project as a testament to the growing partnership between both nations.
“This initiative is not only a significant milestone under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and his fruitful state visit to China last year, but also a shining example of China-Nigeria cooperation,” Zhang said.
He described the water project as a “symbol of the profound friendship” between the two countries, stressing that it would serve as a springboard for deeper collaboration in other key sectors.
Zhang highlighted the role of NEXIM Bank of China, which provided financial backing for the project, noting that its support was crucial to the successful completion of the water network.

“The project’s completion demonstrates China’s unwavering support for Nigeria’s infrastructural growth and socio-economic development,” he added.
The inauguration is one of several projects being commissioned over a 10-day period in the capital city, marking the administration’s drive to deliver on critical infrastructure under the stewardship of Minister Wike.
President Tinubu is expected to participate in some of the commissioning events, as the Federal Capital Territory showcases newly completed projects aligned with the administration’s development agenda.
