AGS NEWS – Julius Berger Nigeria Plc has announced that the reconstruction of Port Harcourt Road, Aba, will be completed before May 29, 2025.
The company stated that the long-awaited rehabilitation of the major commercial route would restore economic activity and connectivity between Aba, Port Harcourt, and other parts of the country.
According to the contract details, the project involves a three-lane carriageway spanning 5.7 km, along with the rehabilitation of Asa Road, which includes a new binder and a 1.1 km wearing course with streetlights.
The company noted that the deteriorated state of the road had significantly impacted businesses, but the ongoing reconstruction was already revitalizing economic activities in the area.
Recent site observations indicate that work on the main road is nearing completion, with Julius Berger now focusing on drainage systems and U-channels at the Enugu-Port Harcourt Highway junction.
Large sections of the road are already in use by motorists and traders, signaling a return to business normalcy.

Project Manager Christian Kloepfel highlighted the company’s commitment to local engagement and sustainability.
He noted that 17 security personnel were recruited from the Aba community, ensuring both site safety and job creation.
A local public relations officer was appointed to enhance communication between the construction team and the community.
Kloepfel also emphasized Julius Berger’s environmentally responsible waste management approach.
The company secured community approval for a designated construction waste dump site, ensuring proper disposal and preventing environmental degradation.
Residents have expressed optimism about the project’s completion. A tricycle operator, Sunday Obigbo, described the development as a “rebirth” for Aba, praising Julius Berger’s role in revitalizing the city’s infrastructure.
