Zuckerberg claims Biden administration pressured Meta to censor vaccine content

AGS NEWS – Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has alleged that the Biden administration pressured the company to remove content about Covid vaccine side effects.

Speaking on Joe Rogan’s podcast, Zuckerberg said he is generally supportive of vaccines but criticized efforts to censor opposing views.

“They pushed us super hard to take down things that were honestly true,” Zuckerberg said, referring to content about vaccine side effects.

He added that Meta refused to remove content that was “inarguably true” but didn’t specify which White House officials made the requests.

The Biden administration has not commented on the claims. However, President Biden criticized Meta’s recent decision to end fact-checking by third parties, calling it “shameful” during a press conference.

The allegations follow Zuckerberg’s August letter to the Republican-led House Judiciary Committee, where he said the administration “pressured” Meta to censor Covid-related content, a move he now regrets.

Meta has announced changes to its approach, including adopting community notes to allow users to add commentary on content.

This aligns with a strategy used by X, owned by Elon Musk, who has supported President-elect Donald Trump.

Separately, Zuckerberg criticized the U.S. government for inadequate support of the tech industry, contrasting it with the European Union’s regulatory approach, which has imposed over $30 billion in fines on tech companies.

He expressed optimism that Trump’s leadership could better position America to succeed globally.

Covid vaccines have been credited with saving millions of lives, though side effects such as headache, fatigue, and fever are acknowledged by health authorities, including the FDA.
