US returns $52.88m Diezani Alison-Madueke’s loot to Nigeria

AGS NEWS – The Federal Government has received $52.88 million in recovered assets linked to former Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke from the United States.

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, announced the recovery during a formal signing ceremony in Abuja on Friday.

Fagbemi explained that $50 million of the funds will be managed by the World Bank to support rural electrification projects, while the remaining $2 million will be allocated to the International Institute of Justice to strengthen the justice system and combat corruption.

“This asset return represents a milestone in the partnership between Nigeria and the United States to fight corruption and uphold the rule of law,” Fagbemi said, describing it as a significant step under President Bola Tinubu’s administration to tackle corruption.

United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills, emphasized the need for effective oversight by the Ministry of Justice to ensure the funds are used to benefit Nigerians.
