AGS NEWS – Brazil’s government has given Meta until Monday to explain recent changes to its fact-checking program, following the company’s decision to scrap its U.S. fact-checking initiative and ease restrictions on topics like immigration and gender identity.
Solicitor General Jorge Messias expressed concern, criticizing Meta for constantly changing its policies.

He stated that Brazil would not tolerate such inconsistency. President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva also condemned the changes, calling them “extremely serious” and scheduled a meeting to address the issue.
Meta has yet to comment on the situation. The changes, announced by CEO Mark Zuckerberg, were framed as a response to “too many mistakes and too much censorship,” with the adjustments currently limited to the U.S. market.
