AGS NEWS – The Nigeria Customs Service Board (NCSB) has approved the promotion of 4,291 senior officers, alongside the confirmation of one Deputy Comptroller-General and seven Assistant Comptroller-Generals.
This decision was made during the board’s 61st regular meeting, chaired by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, according to a statement by the service’s National Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada.

Maiwada noted that the promotions and appointments address vacancies caused by retirements and align with the Federal Character Policy under the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023.
The breakdown of promotions includes:
- 80 Deputy Comptrollers promoted to Customs Comptroller
- 151 Assistant Comptrollers advanced to Deputy Comptroller
- 612 Chief Superintendents promoted to Assistant Comptroller
- 641 Superintendents promoted to Chief Superintendent
- 392 Deputy Superintendents promoted to Superintendent
- 590 Assistant Superintendents I promoted to Deputy Superintendent
- 965 Assistant Superintendents II promoted to Assistant Superintendent I
- 860 Inspectors promoted to Assistant Superintendent II
16 officers received special promotions for exceptional performance, while a posthumous promotion was awarded to the late Deputy Comptroller Etop Andrew Essien, who passed away in June 2024.
The board also approved restructuring, transferring the Post Clearance Audit Unit directly under the Comptroller-General’s office for enhanced oversight and operational efficiency.
To address a high turnover rate among senior officers, a 12-month service extension was granted to select officers from the six geopolitical zones.
The Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, congratulated the promoted officers and reaffirmed the service’s commitment to career growth, operational excellence, and national service.
