Reps want airstrip licences withdrawn from Canaanland, others

AGS NEWS – The House of Representatives has called on the Federal Government to revoke airstrip licenses granted to private individuals and organizations, citing national security concerns.

The House urged an immediate halt on issuing new airstrip licenses to private entities.

This resolution followed a motion raised by Abubakar Gumi, representative for Gummi/Bukkuyum Federal Constituency of Zamfara State.

Gumi highlighted a recent airstrip approval for Living Faith Church, confirmed by Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo. Bishop David Oyedepo, the church’s founder, announced the airstrip’s approval to his congregation.

Gumi expressed concerns over security risks, including illegal arms importation and drug trafficking. He argued that private airstrips could exacerbate challenges like insurgency, kidnapping, and banditry, impacting national stability.

After a debate, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas ruled in favor of the motion, instructing the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development to suspend and revoke private airstrip licenses for security reasons.
