AGS NEWS – The Lagos State Government’s plan to build a new airport in the Lekki area faces potential legal challenges due to an existing agreement with Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited, which operates a terminal at Murtala Muhammed Airport.
The agreement, signed with the Federal Government, forbids the construction of another airport while the terminal concession is still active.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu recently met with aviation authorities to discuss expediting the airport’s construction, which has received industry support for easing traffic at the Murtala Muhammed Airport.

Despite challenges, experts view the new airport as a vital boost for Lagos’ growing economy.
Approval for the project was granted by the Federal Government in October 2022, with construction expected to begin in 2023.
However, Bi-Courtney has not yet commented on the matter, and its agreement with the government remains a potential obstacle to the airport’s development. Industry experts have expressed optimism but caution about the legal implications.
