Libya-based Nigerians recount ordeals after S’Eagles 20-hour airport detention

AGS NEWS – Days after the cancellation of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Nigeria and Libya, Nigerians in Libya are reporting increased maltreatment.

The Nigerian team was diverted to Al-Abraq Airport upon arrival, where they were held for over 20 hours, sparking outrage and leading to the cancellation of the match.

Libyan authorities claimed the move was retaliation for alleged mistreatment of their players in Nigeria.

Nigerians living in Libya say the situation has worsened since the incident, with many facing inhumane treatment, arrests, and imprisonment.

Efforts to address these concerns through diplomatic channels have been largely ineffective.
