AGS NEWS – Super Eagles interim head coach Austin Eguavoen has shared insights on Victor Boniface’s form, praising the striker’s potential but acknowledging his struggles with finishing for the national team.
After Nigeria’s 1-0 win over Libya in their AFCON 2025 qualifier, Eguavoen noted that while Boniface is a clinical striker, his decision-making in key moments has been lacking, causing him to miss scoring opportunities.
Eguavoen stated, “Boniface is a finisher, but he’s struggling in national colours. Sometimes, the chances just don’t come.”

He emphasized that Boniface’s tendency to overthink in front of goal allows defenders to recover, suggesting quicker decision-making could improve his performance.
Nigeria’s victory came from a late goal by substitute Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, who scored in the 86th minute to secure the win.
Despite dominating possession, Nigeria struggled to break down Libya’s defense, with earlier chances missed by Samuel Chukwueze and Ademola Lookman.
The win keeps Nigeria at the top of Group D in the AFCON 2025 qualifiers with seven points.
