More protests coming, says Sowore after airport detention

AGS NEWS – Human rights activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has announced more protests following his brief detention at Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Sunday.

Sowore, who had just returned from the United States, said his passport was seized by Nigerian Immigration on orders to detain him. He was later released, sparking cheers from supporters protesting at the airport.

In an interview with Arise TV, Sowore discussed the upcoming “FearlessInOctober” protest set for October 1, 2024.

He explained that this demonstration is a continuation of the #EndBadGovernance protests from August, highlighting the government’s failure to address 15 key demands.

He stressed the need for Nigerians to stand against hunger, incompetence, and suppression.

Sowore expressed no fear of further arrest, recalling past accusations of treason, and reaffirmed his commitment to fighting for the liberation of Nigerians.

The AAC, through its spokesperson Adeyeye Olorunfemi, condemned Sowore’s detention, accusing the government of silencing dissent. The party vowed to resist further intimidation and called for the release of protesters detained during the August demonstrations.
