Tinubu goes missing in transit again

AGS NEWS – President Bola Tinubu’s foreign trips have once again sparked public speculation. After traveling to China on August 29, with an expected stop in Dubai, Tinubu unexpectedly appeared in London on Wednesday.

He had landed in Beijing on September 1 for a series of meetings with Chinese leaders at the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, concluding with an engagement with Nigerians in China on September 5.

Since leaving China that same day, Tinubu’s exact whereabouts were unknown until his meeting with King Charles III.

A September 6 statement from the State House confirmed the President had issued directives regarding flood victims in Maiduguri, but did not disclose his location.

This pattern of secrecy around the President’s travels is not new.

In April, after visiting the Netherlands and Saudi Arabia, questions arose about his return until the Presidency announced he would return on May 9. Earlier, in January, a “private visit” to France stirred health concerns due to a lack of details.

Meanwhile, back home, Nigeria faces challenges including a prolonged fuel crisis, severe flooding, and ongoing security threats.

Critics argue that the President should be addressing these issues rather than taking unannounced trips abroad, accusing him of continuing a trend of unaccountability seen in past administrations.

They emphasize that transparency in the President’s movements is crucial in a democracy.
