Ogun unveils health insurance scheme for formal sector

AGS NEWS – The Ogun State Government has introduced a health insurance scheme targeting civil servants, public servants, and workers in the formal sector as part of the 2024 Public Service Week celebrations.

Governor Dapo Abiodun, represented by Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele, announced that the government would cover 50% of the premium for each worker enrolled in the scheme.

The initiative underscores the administration’s commitment to the well-being of public servants, which Governor Abiodun referred to as the “engine room” of the government.

He highlighted past efforts to improve healthcare in the state, including a N100 million contribution to the Basic Health Care Provision Fund, the launch of an informal sector health insurance scheme in 2020, and financial support for low-income residents and pregnant women.

Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, urged residents to utilize the insurance schemes to protect themselves from the financial risks associated with healthcare costs.

The Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, praised the initiative for enhancing healthcare access for the workforce, while the state’s NLC Chairman, Hameed Ademola, commended the governor’s worker-friendly approach and called for the scheme’s consistency and sustainability.
