AGS NEWS – Manchester City defeated Manchester United in a penalty shootout to win the 2024 Community Shield at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, August 10.
This victory marks City’s first Community Shield win since 2019, breaking a streak of three consecutive defeats (2021, 2022, 2023).
Meanwhile, Manchester United became the first team to lose the Community Shield four years in a row.
United took the lead with just eight minutes remaining, thanks to a goal from Alejandro Garnacho, but Bernardo Silva equalized for City in the 89th minute, sending the match to penalties.

The initial round of penalties ended 4-4, with Silva’s shot saved by United’s Andre Onana, while Jadon Sancho and Johnny Evans missed their attempts for United.
In the decisive moment, Manuel Akanji scored the winning penalty, securing the shield for Pep Guardiola’s team and providing a significant morale boost ahead of the Premier League season starting next weekend.
