AGS NEWS – The Federal Government has launched a $500 million project, funded by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA), to enhance power transmission infrastructure along the Lagos-Ogun industrial corridor.
This announcement was made by Bolaji Tunji, Special Adviser on Strategic Communication and Media Relations to the Minister of Power, in a statement on Friday.
The Lagos-Ogun industrial corridor, a major industrial hub in southwestern Nigeria, is home to numerous manufacturing industries but faces challenges like inadequate power supply and poor infrastructure.
The JICA project aims to address these issues by improving power transmission in the region, including key areas such as Agbara, Mowe, and Shagamu.

Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, shared details of the project during a meeting with Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, in Abuja.
The initiative will involve constructing new power transmission substations, upgrading existing ones, and reinforcing weak high-voltage power lines to enhance capacity and expand coverage.
Adelabu also highlighted ongoing efforts under the Presidential Power Initiative, which focuses on strengthening power transmission infrastructure within and beyond the Ogun industrial corridors.
He urged the governor to collaborate with the ministry in encouraging gas pipeline operators to improve infrastructure for better gas supply to power plants and industries in the state.
Governor Abiodun praised the minister for the recent improvements in power supply and called for continued efforts to further enhance power infrastructure in Ogun State, recognizing it as a critical industrial hub in Nigeria.
