AGS NEWS – A gas explosion at the Mobil Filling Station near Airport Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos State, on Thursday morning led to injuries for at least nine people and the destruction of several vehicles.
The explosion, which occurred around 10:49 a.m., triggered a fire that caused widespread panic among residents and business owners in the area.
An attendant at the station reported hearing a loud noise from the gas point while refilling a storage tank, leading to a fire that quickly spread, engulfing around nine vehicles.

Emergency services, including the Lagos State Emergency Maintenance Agency (LASEMA) and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, responded swiftly to contain the fire and rescue the injured.
According to LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, the explosion was caused by a damaged pipe on an eight-ton LPG gas cylinder, which led to a gas leak that ignited.
The explosion left two men with severe burns and caused minor injuries to seven others. Approximately 10 vehicles were damaged, along with parts of a nearby two-storey building.
The injured were transported to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) for further treatment.
