Defendant sentenced to 558 days in jail after telling judge to ‘kiss my ass‘

AGS NEWS – A Michigan defendant was sentenced to over a year in jail after a profanity-laced outburst in court, during which he told the judge to “kiss my ass.” Darrell Jarrell appeared before Washtenaw County Judge Cedric Simpson on August 7 for a misdemeanor trespassing charge.

As the judge was about to adjourn, Jarrell expressed frustration with the state and made the offensive remark.

Judge Simpson responded by sentencing Jarrell to 93 days in jail for contempt of court. When Jarrell continued swearing, Simpson added another 93 days for each outburst, resulting in a total sentence of 558 days.

The incident reportedly stemmed from Jarrell’s dissatisfaction with his court date, which had been delayed due to difficulties in contacting him.

The courtroom drama unfolded on a Zoom call, where another defendant, Keith Jenkins, watched in shock as Jarrell’s behavior escalated.

Despite the disruption, Judge Simpson remained composed and moved on to Jenkins’ case with a light-hearted exchange.
