AGS NEWS – The Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh, announced that Nigerian athletes, both local and foreign-based, have received training grants and allowances.
This initiative underscores the ministry’s commitment to the welfare of the country’s athletes.
Senator Enoh, tweeting as #OwanEnoh, highlighted that this is the first time home-based athletes have received training grants.
He emphasized the ministry’s efforts to ensure all Team Nigeria athletes receive their local, foreign, and Olympic allowances.
“In ensuring that all local, foreign, and Olympics allowances are paid to all Team Nigeria athletes, I had another interactive session with the athletes at the games village in Paris to follow up on their welfare,” he tweeted.
The minister also noted that home-based athletes had previously complained about not receiving training grants, a privilege their foreign-based counterparts enjoyed.

Now, both local and foreign-based athletes have received these grants and all other allowances.
Enoh stated that all athletes representing Nigeria deserve training grants as they all put in significant effort and passion. There is a lot of excitement in the games village, with athletes eager for podium appearances.
In sports news, Nigerian athlete Favour Ofili qualified for the final of the women’s 200 meters at the Olympic Games in Paris, running a season-best 22.05 seconds. She joins seven others in the event’s final.
Additionally, Nigerian wrestler Blessing Oborududu advanced to the semi-finals of the women’s 68kg wrestling event, defeating Canadian opponent Linda Morais 8-2.
The women’s senior basketball team, D’Tigress, reached the quarter-finals of the Olympic event after a historic 79-70 victory over Canada. They will face the United States next in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
