AGS NEWS – Security operatives at Bayero University, Kano, have arrested two men posing as lecturers and selling books to unsuspecting new students.
According to Bala Abdullahi, Publication Secretary of the Special Bulletin, the suspects, David Iluebe from Edo State and Chike Eke from Delta State, entered a lecture hall at the Faculty of Engineering and introduced themselves as department lecturers to 100-level students.
They presented four textbooks and threatened that purchasing these books was mandatory for Continuous Assessment (CA) to avoid failing the courses.
Frightened students bought several copies, but the suspects were arrested on July 25, 2024, following a report.

The men were detained for criminal trespass, impersonation, and cheating. During the investigation, the suspects admitted to the allegations, claiming they were the authors of the books and were trying to make a living due to unemployment.
They also revealed it was their second visit to the state, having previously targeted Kano State Polytechnic.
The books found were of poor quality and suspected to be pirated. Abdullahi expressed concern over this emerging trend of impersonators exploiting students and announced that the suspects would be handed over to the police.
The university plans to raise awareness among students and has increased surveillance to prevent future incidents.
