AGS NEWS – In Badagry, a cholera outbreak has resulted in the deaths of two individuals and the hospitalization of five others, as reported by Olatunde Bakare, the Medical Director of Badagry General Hospital.
According to Bakare, the outbreak began when six inmates from the local Correctional Centre were admitted to the hospital on July 9th.
Sadly, one inmate was already deceased upon arrival, and another passed away the next morning due to cholera.

“Laboratory tests confirmed cholera in the affected individuals who were immediately placed under emergency care,” Bakare stated. “Since then, additional patients have been admitted, bringing the total to five currently receiving treatment.”
Following the outbreak, the Lagos State Ministry of Health swiftly responded by deploying medical teams and environmental officers to the prison and hospital.
They provided essential medications, intravenous fluids, and implemented measures to improve environmental conditions and water quality.
“The prompt intervention has resulted in a decrease in new cases and marked improvement in the health of those hospitalized,” Bakare confirmed.
