N80bn fraud: EFCC accuses colleagues, others of shielding Yahaya Bello

AGS NEWS – The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has accused influential Nigerians of protecting former Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello from facing court over allegations of N80.2 billion fraud.

EFCC’s acting Zonal Director for Benin, Effa Okim, made these remarks during a visit to the Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Asaba.

The anti-corruption agency has been unsuccessful in arresting Bello, even declaring him wanted, while the Nigerian Immigration Service placed him on a watchlist.

Responding to queries about why Bello has not been apprehended, Okim expressed frustration, blaming collective failure.

He criticized the lack of action from political figures and colleagues of Bello, questioning why they haven’t intervened to urge him to present himself to the EFCC for questioning.

Okim emphasized the need for collective responsibility in upholding Nigeria’s image and urged the media to unite in criticizing Bello’s actions and encouraging him to cooperate with the EFCC, rather than focusing solely on prosecution.
