Malaysian footballer vows comeback after acid attack

AGS NEWS – A Malaysian international footballer, Faisal Halim, who was severely injured in an acid attack in May, tearfully vowed on Thursday to return to the sport within “one to two months.”

Faisal, a winger for Selangor FC, suffered fourth-degree burns on his neck, shoulder, hands, and chest during the attack at a shopping center near Kuala Lumpur on May 5.

Known as “Mickey,” the 26-year-old spent three weeks in the hospital and underwent multiple surgeries.

Speaking publicly for the first time since the incident, Faisal expressed his hope to resume playing soon, despite doctors suggesting a recovery time of up to six months. “I am willing to return to training when doctors give me the green light,” he said.

At the press conference, Faisal showed visible scars on his head and face, appeared underweight, and moved slowly.

He was escorted by a dozen bodyguards and revealed that he is currently staying in a secret location with his family for safety.

Two people were arrested in connection with the attack but were later released without charges. The motive behind the assault remains unclear.

Faisal’s case is part of a series of crimes against top Malaysian footballers in May, though the incidents are not believed to be related.

Faisal, who scored an acclaimed equaliser against South Korea in the Asian Cup, expressed his longing for football.

The Malaysian football season was set to start on May 10 with a match between Selangor and Johor Darul Ta’zim, but Selangor withdrew due to recent threats, and the league began the next day under tight security.
