AGS NEWS – On Monday, youths in Akure, the Ondo State capital, protested against a raid by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that resulted in the arrest of 127 people at two nightclubs.
The EFCC operatives conducted the raid on Saturday, targeting alleged internet fraudsters. Among those arrested was a man celebrating his bachelor’s eve.
Protesters gathered in the city, singing solidarity songs and demanding the unconditional release of those arrested. The protest caused significant traffic congestion on Oba Adesida Road and near the governor’s office.

Protester Femi Akinremi urged the state and Federal Government to investigate the EFCC’s actions, questioning the legality of arresting youths enjoying themselves at nightclubs.
The EFCC confirmed the arrests but denied allegations of brutality or the use of tear gas.
Dele Oyewale, Head of Media & Publicity, stated, “No suspect was assaulted or dehumanized during the operation. EFCC personnel do not use tear gas during sting operations.”
