17 year old girl’s lung burst after vaping the equivalent of 57 cigarettes a day

AGS NEWS – A father rushed his daughter to the hospital after her lung collapsed from excessive vaping, equivalent to smoking 400 cigarettes a week.

Mark Blythe received a distressing call on May 11, informing him that his 17-year-old daughter Kyla had collapsed and turned blue during a sleepover.

Kyla’s lung collapsed due to a burst pulmonary bleb, caused by her vaping habit. After nearly experiencing cardiac arrest, she underwent a five-and-a-half-hour surgery to remove part of her lung and spent two weeks in recovery.

“It was terrifying,” Mark said. “I’ve cried like a baby. It was horrible to watch.”

Kyla had been vaping since age 15, using 4,000-puff vapes weekly, equating to 400 cigarettes or 57 a day. Her ordeal has now left her afraid of vaping.

“I thought it was harmless,” Kyla said. “But now, I won’t touch them. The situation has really scared me.”

Mark is urging other young people to stop vaping, emphasizing that “it’s not worth it.” He shared, “I’ve been to hell and back with Kyla. They can’t attribute her condition to anything but vaping.”

The family’s experience highlights the dangers of vaping, as medical professionals suspect disposable vapes are causing lung issues like Kyla’s.

“Apparently, it’s a big thing now,” Mark said. “The surgeon mentioned he’s done many operations like this.”
