Oyo Government: HPV vaccine aimed at health, not population control

AGS NEWS – Dr. Muideen Olatunji, Executive Secretary of Oyo State Primary Healthcare Board, addressed concerns regarding the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccine during a press conference in Ibadan.

Contrary to rumors, Olatunji emphasized that the vaccine is not intended to reduce Africa’s population.

The state government has incorporated the HPV vaccine into the Extended Programme on Immunization (EPI), focusing on girls aged 9-14.

Olatunji highlighted cervical cancer as a significant health issue for women and stressed the importance of preventive measures.

Over 300 pupils have already received the vaccine at St. Paul Anglican Primary School, Yanbule, Bashorun.

Olatunji reiterated that the vaccination program aims to protect young girls and citizens from cervical cancer, not to reduce the population.

He emphasized the seriousness of cervical cancer and the importance of vaccination as a cost-effective and safe preventive measure.

The government has implemented strict measures to ensure the safe administration of the vaccine and reach all parts of Oyo State.

Olatunji urged stakeholders to support the vaccination initiative to reduce the prevalence of cervical cancer and protect the lives of citizens, particularly young girls.

He emphasized the significance of prevention over treatment and cure, as cervical cancer is preventable with HPV vaccination.
