Former policeman Derek Chauvin sued for $9 million for allegedly using George Floyd move on a woman

AGS NEWS – Derek Chauvin, the former police officer convicted of murdering George Floyd, is now facing a new lawsuit from Patricia “Patty” Dawn Welch Day, who accuses him of using excessive force during a January 2020 incident.

Patricia Welch Day alleges that Chauvin and another Minneapolis police officer, Ellen Jensen, forcibly removed her from her vehicle without justification, throwing her to the ground and causing injuries, including a fractured tooth, and arm and shoulder injuries, before handcuffing her.

Welch Day claims that Chauvin pressed his knee into her back while she was restrained, similar to his actions against George Floyd.

She also states that Jensen did not intervene during the incident.

She alleges that the Minneapolis Police Department ignored body cam footage supporting her claims, allowing the officers to remain unpunished.

Welch Day is seeking $9 million in compensatory damages from Chauvin, Jensen, and the MPD, along with an unspecified amount for punitive damages.

Chauvin is currently serving over 22 years in prison after his 2021 conviction for second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter.

He also received a concurrent 21-year sentence for a federal charge of violating George Floyd’s civil rights.
