UBTH announces mass burial for 270 unclaimed corpses

AGS NEWS – The University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) announced plans to conduct a mass burial for 270 unclaimed corpses if they are not collected within six weeks.

Ehizogie Adeyemi, the coordinator of Mortuary Services, shared this information with journalists in Benin City, Edo State, on Tuesday.

The unclaimed bodies include 201 infants and 69 adults. The infants have been at the hospital since 2023, while the adults have been there from April 2021 to December 2022.

Attempts to contact the families using the provided addresses and phone numbers have been unsuccessful.

In a statement issued on Monday, the hospital management emphasized that any corpses remaining unclaimed after the six-week period will be buried en masse.

The public is urged to claim the bodies before the deadline to avoid this outcome.
