Tension on Nigerian govt to expose cabals behind fuel scarcity

AGS NEWS – The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) has urged the Federal Government to reveal the alleged individuals responsible for the persistent fuel scarcity in the country.

During the association’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Lagos, Dr. Tommy Okon, the ASCSN President, expressed concern over the continuous fuel scarcity and long queues at petrol stations, which he believes are hindering the economy and worsening the hardship faced by Nigerians, particularly workers.

Dr. Okon emphasized that the one-week ultimatum issued by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) on the reversal of the recent electricity tariff hike, announced on May Day, remains in effect, indicating that labor is committed to this demand.

Speaking as the Deputy President of TUC, Dr. Okon questioned the government’s assurances regarding the operations of the Port Harcourt Refinery and the anticipated resolution of petrol pricing challenges with the commencement of operations at the Dangote Refinery.

He criticized what he perceives as a lack of transparency from the government or the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) regarding the subsidy situation.

Dr. Okon highlighted the inconsistency in government statements, from attributing fuel scarcity to logistical issues to marketers citing unpaid debts in dollars.

He also referenced previous promises, including President Bola Tinubu’s assurance of market forces coming into play after the removal of fuel subsidy.
