Suspected herdsmen kill three farmers in Benue village

AGS NEWS – In a tragic incident on Friday, May 3, 2024, suspected Fulani herdsmen ambushed and killed three farmers in Ogbaulu community of Agatu Local Government Area (LGA) in Benue State.

The victims, identified as Edoh Alhassan, Echewija Edoh, and Simon Emmanuel, were attacked around 9:30 am while working in their farms located between Ogbaulu in Agatu LGA and Imana in Apa LGA.

Confirming the devastating news, the Chairman of Agatu LGA, Yakubu Ochohepo Pencil, expressed shock upon receiving the report at around 10 am the same day.

He pointed out that the herdsmen responsible for the heinous acts are currently encamped in boundary communities between Apa and Agatu LGAs, including Akpete, Ikobi, and Imana.

He urged security agencies to take swift action to eliminate the threat.

Eyewitness and Youth Leader from Ogbaulu community, Comrade Adole Ajose Ehoda, verified the attack, revealing that the victims’ bodies were being deposited in an undisclosed hospital’s mortuary.

Senator Abba Moro, representing Benue South and serving as the Senate Minority Leader, condemned the attack and called upon both federal and state governments to urgently address the escalating violence.

Ojotu Ojema, the member representing Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency and Chairman of the House Standing Committee on National Inland Waterways, expressed deep sadness over the recurring killings.

He urged security agencies to take decisive action to permanently end the senseless bloodshed.

Tragically, attacks and killings by suspected herdsmen have become distressingly common in Benue State.

Just days before this incident, on April 28, 2024, suspected Fulani herdsmen ambushed and killed two Ogbaulu youths, Annes Salihu and David Simon.

On May 1, 2024, a young farmer named Adanu Nathan was killed in his farm, while another youth, Idu Ohili, was brutally attacked and injured.
