VP Shettima returns from Kenya summit, holds meeting with US secretary Campbell

AGS NEWS – Vice President Kashim Shettima returned to Nigeria after attending the International Development Association Summit in Nairobi, Kenya, on behalf of President Bola Tinubu.

The summit, hosted by Kenyan President William Ruto, focused on urging for increased funding for the World Bank’s IDA concessional lending arm, with Shettima joining other African leaders in this call.

This marked Shettima’s ninth foreign trip in the 11 months since he took office.

Upon his return at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, he held a closed-door meeting with United States Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell and his team.

According to Stanley Nkwocha, the Vice President’s Spokesperson, discussions during the meeting covered various topics including security, bilateral relations, technological cooperation, and economic partnerships.

Both parties affirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and enhancing connectivity between their nations.

Deputy Secretary Campbell’s visit to Nigeria included his role as co-chair of the sixth U.S.-Nigeria Binational Commission with Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar.

Shettima has previously represented President Tinubu in various international engagements, including visits to Rome, Moscow, Johannesburg, Havana, Beijing, Iowa, Davos, and Abidjan.
